Despite persistent claims for decades of increasing secularization in the United States and a supposed drift from faith and values, we remain a pretty religious society and in many places in the country a church-going people. While we have seen incredible cultural and social change instead of the decline of religion and religiosity predicted by some theorists in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, we still live in a time of increased interest in religion and spirituality and indeed in new theories of secularization. For those of us engaged in this particular study we are part of that church-going group.
